Therapy across the lifespan
Dr. Prouty has had extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and families. Starting in his teens as a swim instructor Dr. Prouty has worked with children and families in different capacities ever since. As an outdoor educator he utilized nature as tool to help adolescents heal and develop. As a classroom teacher he gained in-depth experience working with children with Learning Disorders, and Autistic Spectrum Disorders (Autism, Asperger’s) In his PhD training he specialized in Pediatric Neuropsychological Assessment and child development.
Dr. Prouty also works with adults, couples, and groups. Specialties include Emotion Focused Couples Therapy, Cognitive Rehabilitation, and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction.

Dr. Prouty is trained in, and employs, a variety of treatment modalities. His approach is to understand problems as a confluence of factors, biological, psychological, and social, and to apply the most appropriate treatment. These treatments often include various forms of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Family Systems Therapy, Attachment-based Therapy, and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), among others.
Dr. Prouty subscribes to the belief that patients deserve to receive treatments that have been empirically tested and validated. As a researcher he is constantly updating his treatment strategies and keeping abreast of the latest research findings.
